Just after midnight last Saturday, an off-​duty police officer was attacked by three men, sending him to hospital with a head injury. According to the Daily News, the attack on the 42-​year-​old officer was unprovoked, with one of the suspects jumping in front of the officer “in a fighting stance”, and began attacking after he ignored the group and tried to walk past them, before running off.

It’s been almost a year since a similar late-​night attack by a group on a man in the area. That one was way out near 12^th Ave though, and was on a Thursday night/​Friday morning. This incident however was just off 9^th Ave, and on a Friday night/​Saturday morning. Worrying.

We’ve heard reports that some time last night around 7am there was a stabbing outside Vynl, right on 9^th Ave. Not too much information is available at the moment, other than what local resident Mark reported on Twitter:

Someone was stabbed on 9^th Avenue at 51^st Street in #HellsKitchen #NYC last night (in front of vynl).

My roommate said there was blood in front of Boxers HK too.

Police were outside Vynl this morning investigating, so hopefully we’ll hear more soon. If you have any more info on this “unfortunate incident”, please let us know!

Almost two months ago there was another late-​night stabbing, but that was all the way over on 11^th Ave, which that late at night feels a bit “sketchy”. If it happens in the middle of 9^th Ave, during the day, that’s something else entirely.

Update: DNAinfo have uncovered some more information about the incident. Turns out it was earlier this morning, not last night as we originally thought, which makes it that much worse.

The man was stabbed outside the eatery at 754 Ninth Ave. near West 51^st Street just after 7 a.m., officials said.

He was taken to Bellevue Hospital for non-​life-​threatening injuries, the FDNY said.

At least the victim will be ok. Still no news on why this happened, so we’ll keep an eye out.

Update 2: DNAinfo reports that the attack was part of an attempted robbery.

After an apparent hate-​crime attack on a gay man two weeks ago that left the victim requiring brain surgery, the New York City Anti-​Violence Project are organizing a Community Safety Night on Friday, to raise awareness and provide safety information. The evening will begin at their offices at 240 W 35^th St, before heading out to the community to share safety tips and information.

The event was triggered after a vigil held last week after the attack, attended by the friends and family of the victim, as well as concerned members of the community.

Police describe the suspect as a Hispanic male in his 20s, approximately 6 feet tall, 160 lbs, with short black hair. He was last seen wearing a black jacket and black jeans. Because 11^th Ave didn’t already have a bad enough image late at night… At around 3:15am on Sunday morning, three people were left injured – one critically – after a dispute outside the Hudson Terrance Club on W 46^th St, just west of 11^th Ave, WABC 7 reports.

Apparently, after an argument on the dance floor, a car pulled up as the victims were leaving the club and attacked. Fortunately all the victims were stabilized on the scene, and quickly taken to nearby hospitals.

This is just the latest in late-​night 11^th Ave crime. Just two months ago, a gang of youths beat and robbed a man between 11^th & 12^th Aves late at night, ten streets north of this latest incident. Not a good place for a midnight stroll, it seems…

The New York Times reports that two men were injured at the Port Authority Bus Terminal just before 9pm on New Year’s Eve by a man wielding a knife of some kind.

The attacks took place around 8:50 p.m. in an area near the ticketing counter in the main concourse of the station, officials said. Two men, ages 47 and 61, were being treated at Roosevelt Hospital with wounds that did not appear to be life-​threatening.

The police were searching for a male suspect who fled the station, but no arrest had been made by about 11 p.m., said Joseph Pentangelo, a spokesman for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. He said the weapon had not been recovered, but described the injuries as “lacerations rather than stabs.”

The attacker and the victims apparently knew each other, so it wasn’t just random violence, and the terminal reopened a few hours later with everything quickly going back to normal. It still doesn’t look like the suspect has been apprehended though, which is reassuring… A great way to wrap up 2013.

In case you didn’t hear yet, an ex-​employee of the construction site at 49^th & 9^th shot a former colleague around 9:30am this morning. The victim was taken to hospital, and fortunately is expected to make a full recovery. DNAinfo has the full story.
