  1. Have your say on the Far West Side bus route

    The planned Far West Side bus route covering 11th & 12th Aves is getting closer to becoming a reality. As part of the process, a survey has been released for feedback on where the actual stops should be along the route.

    The route will head up 12th Ave, along W 57th St to Columbus Circle, then back down 11th Ave to Chelsea, connecting with the subway at Columbus Circle, 14th St/​8th Ave, and the future 34th St/​Hudson Yards stop, running every 30 minutes.

    Throughout the process of planning this new route community feedback has been heavily involved. Already the MTA has agreed to change the route to the plan you see now – before it stayed entirely on 11th & 12th Aves, without the Columbus Circle connection – but they haven’t yet given in to requests for more frequent service. Every half an hour is what’s probably going to be a dealbreaker for many people, but maybe it’ll catch on.

    Anyway, head over to the survey to leave your suggestions on the stops.

  1. “Countdown to Vision Zero” town hall on tonight

    Tonight at John Jay College, senator Brad Hoylman will be holding a “Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Town Hall” with a representative from the Mayor’s office, discussing Vision Zero – “the Mayor’s plan to eliminate traffic fatalities within a decade”.

  1. 7 line extension reached milestone of inaugural ride

    Friday was a big day for the future 7 line extension to Hudson Yards, with the first official train stopping at the station, along with an address by the mayor. From all accounts the ceremony was very thrown together, with the station still a long, long way from being ready. Given that the mayor more-​or-​less championed the extension though, you can’t blame him for wanting to have some celebration of it before his tenure ends, so there you go.

    We didn’t get an invite (I’m sure it was just lost in the mail), but Benjamin Kabak from Second Ave Sagas was there, and gave a great overview of the extension, and how it fits into the greater city transit picture. DNAinfo also have their look at the ceremony.

    The new station – scheduled to open around the middle of next year – is expected to be pretty major, buried deep beneath the area soon to be dominated by Hudson Yards, and finally brings a station west of 8th Ave. Unfortunately, the additional planned station at 41st & 10th was cut from the project some years ago, and we’re still a bit bitter. Hopefully one day they’ll circle back around to it. Or it’ll end up in Secaucus. Either way.
