Phew. Last week, after several days of being shuttered, we wrote about how it looked like Manhattan Bicycles had closed. Given the decrease in cycling winter brings (especially with the weather we have to look forward to tomorrow), it made sense, despite how popular the place is. Well, good news, because today they were back open, just like nothing had happened:
Sigh of relief.
Time for a check in at the incoming Pie Face on 8th Ave. Last we saw back in September they were still installing drywall…they’ve made a lot of progress since then:
The signature I♥NY signage is going up (really think they missed out on a great pun opportunity with “PIE♥NY”):
Pie Face are on a roll lately. They opened up a spot on 9th Ave just a few months ago, and just last month opened a store at Union Square. You might as well just embrace the Australian sensation. With construction getting closer to finishing at the latest store, expert the prize wheel to be out the front in no time.
They’re not messing around with the incoming second outpost of Turco. We covered the new location last week, which had been sitting seemingly dormant for a few weeks, but it looks like whatever they were waiting for is over, and they’re getting straight in to the store fit out.
They’ll have to make the most of the small space in the old Verizon store:
In the mean time, you can get a taste (in every sense of the word) for what’s coming by checking out the original Turco at 43rd & 9th.
We’ve really dropped the ball on this one! We mentioned the new bike store on 10th Ave earlier this week, then followed up with the name of the store. Now, turns out this is actually the bike store on 9th Ave’s new location!
The building is the fairly unique yellow one on the corner of 47th & 9th, which has had the faded bike paintings along the wall forever, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens to them.
Yesterday we noticed the incoming bike store on 10th Ave, but weren’t sure of the name. Turns out they’ve put it on the door:
Danny’s Cycles have a couple of stores throughout NY state, including two in the city, and this outpost marks their expansion into the west side of Manhattan.
