  1. Food Festival part one

    We’re halfway through the 9th Ave International Food Festival, and it’s been lovely weather so far. Sure, there’s plenty of “knick-​knack” stalls, , and of course MozzArepas™, but if you can get past them dozens of restaurants along 9th Ave have got stalls going, and most of the bars have seating overflowing out onto the street.

    Of course, you have to brave the sea of people:

    A lot of local community groups have stalls going:

    The kids section is up between 53rd & 54th with at least five jumping castles, and two of these guys:

    Meanwhile further down the Citibike docks have found a new purpose in life as seating:

    Basically the whole festival can be summed up as “diets”

  1. 9th Ave International Food Festival tomorrow!

    Things have been pretty quiet around here lately…sorry about that. But we couldn’t miss tomorrow! The annual 9th Avenue International Food Festival returns, bringing food from a whole heap of 9th Ave restaurants and stores out for us.

    The festival will be running from 42nd St right up to 57th St, so there’ll be plenty of options, and runs across the whole weekend. Here’s the full list of stalls that’ll be lining the avenue. Be sure to go with the local stores and avoid the ever-​present MozzArepas™, and we can help keep this one from becoming like every other generic street fair!

    Tonight’s flood warning looks like it’s passed, and it’s looking like a clear day tomorrow, so it should be great. Last year was a bit overcast, so hopefully it turns out better. Here’s a taste (haha…) of what to look forward to:

  1. Columbus Circle Holiday Market up and running

    Columbus Circle

    Not content to let Union Square get all the fun, Urbanspace have launched the Columbus Circle Holiday Market, with over 150 vendors selling clothes, jewelry, food, art, homewares, and more.

    Here’s the poster they’ve put out (not much information on it though):

    You can see the map or the website to find out all the vendors who’ll be at the market, or just head on up and see them in person. The markets are running from now right through to Christmas Eve from 10am – 7/​8pm, so you’ve got plenty of opportunities to go check them out.

  1. Street fair overload today

    Our favorite event was on yet again today: the Broadway street fair. There’s nothing really to say about this that we haven’t said already, so unless you’re in the market for tacky phone accessories, plain food, or the general feeling of “meh”, you can ignore it.

    Over on 10th Ave however, outside PS111, the was a small market of sorts set up, with a handful of people offering various homemade foods and other items:

    Unlike the monolithic Broadway markets, this little gathering had character. Great to see!

  1. New Farmer’s Market on 42nd St

    W 42nd St btw. 11th Ave & 12th Ave

    Hell’s Kitchen welcomed a new farmer’s market to the area today. The market runs along the sidewalk on 42nd St between 11th & 12th Avenues, and will be running 8am-​6pm every Wednesday through to the end of November.

    Per the site, here’s the list of stalls that are participating so far:

    • Artisanal Bakery: Breads and baked goods from Bergen County, NJ
    • Dipaola Turkey Farm: Turkeys from Mercer County, NJ
    • Millport Dairy: Cheddar cheese, beef, pickles and baked goods from Lancaster County, PA
    • Morgiewicz Produce: Vegetables from the black dirt of Orange County, NY
    • Nature’s Way Honey: Honey & candles from Chemung County, NY
    • Norwich Meadows Farm: Certified Organic vegetables from Chenango County, NY
    • Toigo Orchard: Orchard fruit from Cumberland County, PA
    • Las Delicias: Baked goods New York County, NY

    They also had live music on in the middle of the day, as well as a free demonstration. With the dramas going on with the Big Apple Meat Market being bounced between locations, and the cancelled plans for a new supermarket on 45th St, it’ll hopefully help fill the void of fresh food in the area.

  1. Broadway Street Fair

    48th St & Broadway

    (Catching up – better late than never). Over the weekend there was a surprise-​to-​us fair going on over on Broadway:

    Fortunately, the weather was perfect fair conditions on Saturday, so hundreds of people turned out for it.
