1. Marshals take possession of La Silhouette

This is a cautionary tale of what happens when you don’t pay your rent. The French restaurant La Silhouette was closed this week, after their place was repossessed by the marshals.

They’ve had some rocky times before, most notably getting a one-star review from the NY Times, which they bravely linked to (although they’re at 45 stars on Yelp). We’ll have to wait and see if they’re able to patch things up with their landlord, or if this is the end of La Silhouette.

  2. Another Halloween dog costume contest

If you missed the last one, don’t panic: there’s another Halloween costume contest for dogs tomorrow. The “Howlin’ Halloween” Dog Parade & Costume Contest is happening on W 55th St, and should be an exciting evening…for dog owners.

The dogs are all meeting at 7pm outside the building at 340 W 55th, so dress your dog up in its finest outfit and head over (I’m assuming there’ll be prizes).

  1. Braving the temperature for the Fall Film Screening

As we mentioned yesterday, the W 45th & 46th St Block Associations held their annual Fall Film Screening in Matthews Palmer Playground, and despite the ever-dropping temperatures, there was a good turnout.

The children got to make their own “seedballs” (exactly what it sounds like balls of soil full of seeds):

They even had free pumpkin pie and apple cider available (I’m pretty sure the pie was courtesy of Hell’s Kitchen Restaurant, so that’s nice of them):

This is the 8th year they’ve been running the night, and it doesn’t look like it’s slowing down. It’s a great way to bring the local streets together for a family evening before it’s actually winter.

Overall just a nice community night out.

  1. Free outdoor movies tomorrow night

Who says it’s too cold to go outside? The W 45th St Block Association have organized a double feature tomorrow night at Matthews Palmer Park. The timely Charlie Brown “It’s the Great Pumpkin” will be showing along with a documentary The Vanishing City. The directors of the documentary will even be there for a Q&A after the screening.

It’s all starting at 6:30pm, so bring your blankets. For those of you who have been craving outdoor movies since the ones at the Intrepid finished, your prayers have been answered.

  2. Señor de los Milagros procession returns

The Brotherhood of Señor de los Milagros (Our Lord of Miracles) held their seemingly-regular parade/procession today, starting at 53rd & 9th.

Massive crowds turned out for it:

The whole sidewalk around PS111 was covered with various tables with all kinds of foods. Looked pretty similar to the other week (related?).

The parade continued down 53rd, up a block on 11th Ave, then back to 9th Ave along 54th, before returning to the church on 53rd.
