Here we go. The next installment of the Summer Movies Series at the Intrepid is on tomorrow night, and it’s the one we’ve been waiting for: Top Gun, on the flight deck of the Intrepid. Gonna be huge.
As usual, doors open at 7:30pm, but you’ll want to be there well in advance – it fills up quickly.
Just one more to go after this one – the Karate Kid next week. Is summer over already?
The Columbus library has a new addition:
One of life’s great mysteries is who/what drowns the area in the bright, unfortunately-designed “apartment for rent” flyers every month or so. Mystery solved.
Right next door to the new Mamasita, another new spot is opening up. Named “White Oak”, we don’t know too much about it yet, other than that it’ll have a rear garden.
The spot was formerly “Fusion”, which closed around May of last year.
That block along 10th Ave is changing rapidly. First Mamasita, and now there’s White Oak coming shortly. The paint store a few stores up has closed, and the building next to that is being rebuilt. Exciting times.
It was a pretty bad start to the day, but out of nowhere it got much better:
After great weather for the last few days, back to the rain:
Wrapping up our constant coverage, the Columbus branch of the NY Public Library finally reopened today after over two months away, to little fanfare. Good to have it back.
Outside Go Sushi this afternoon:
Zigolini’s on 9th Ave was shuttered by the health department earlier this week, for “operating without a license”.
The pizza bar was also closed by the department of health back in April for violations, so this isn’t their first encounter with The Notice™. We’ll keep an eye out for when they’re back open.
The new Mexican bar and restaurant on 10th Ave – Mamasita – has now opened, and they’re running a bunch of cheap drink specials to celebrate. We’ve got more information about it in our post from earlier this week.
The Rauschenbusch Metro Ministries, a local organization that provides support to youths and adults in the area, as well as major supporters of the HK Farm Project, are running a fundraiser for their youth camp and other services.
They’ve raised over $4500 so far, so are extremely close to breaking their $5000 target. If you want to support the group, head here to donate.
Saw this flyer up this morning around 36th St. Unlike the hundred or so “apartment for rent” ads, here’s one actually worth looking at:
The cat’s name is “Tonka”, and was last seen on Tuesday on W 36th St between 8th & 9th. If you see the cat, call Tom on (917) 257‑5716. There’s a $250 reward too, so that’s nice. Hopefully Tonka is returned safely.
