Tomorrow night Dance Manhattan– a Chelsea-based dance studio – are holding a free Jazz/Swing Moon Dance over on Pier 84, next to the Intrepid. Turns out it’s been on for the past two Sunday nights as well and just slipped by us. It’ll also be on for two more weeks after tomorrow so we’re not too late.
Here’s what you can look forward to tomorrow:
6:30–7:10: Free Charleston Lesson with Joe Palmer & Suzanne Temple
7:15-10pm: Live Music with Vince Giordano & the Nighthawks
8pm: Performances by Joe & Suzanne (Peabody), Paolo Lanna & friends (20s Charleston)
Unfortunately, since it’s being held outdoors, if it’s raining it’ll be cancelled. And wouldn’t you know it, the forecast for tomorrow is rain. Fingers crossed?
Now that it’s getting into summer (except for today), the Manhattan Community Boathouse have launched their free weekend kayaking again. Over the Memorial Day weekend they got the kayaks out at their Pier 96 location (at 56th St), and it was the perfect weather for it:
The kayaking is on from 10am-6pm every weekend, from now until mid-October, so you’ve got plenty of opportunities to get out on the water. Also during June, July and August they’ll be running it from 5pm-7pm on weekends, so you can get in an after-work paddle if you’re up for it.
We’re just as puzzled as you, but apparently there’s “Drunken Shakespeare” happening tomorrow night at Bar 9. The event’s being run by The Night Shift, and it’s the third one they’ve held this year. Best of all, it’s completely free.
It’s free, bawdy, brash, bold, and back! On December 9 at Bar 9, The Night Shift is proud to present the return of the Time Out New York Critic’s Pick, Drunken Shakespeare! Back by popular demand, this Bardian-karaōke lovechild invites you to strut your Shakespearean swagger, grab a beer, try your luck in a raffle with great prizes, and hang with fellow fools & misfits. Have a speech or sonnet you’ve been dying to share? Don’t have a piece memorized? You can read from one of the Complete Works provided! Get there early, grab a free seat, and be ready to give all your fame for a pot of ale with The Night Shift!
Sounds like an interesting night. The poetry starts around 8pm, so you’ll probably want to get there a bit before that. We’ll spare you from a Shakespeare quote pun, too.
It’s been about 1000º every day lately, so any activity with anything to do with water is appealing. Over at Clinton Cove Park/Pier 96 (@ 55th St), the Downtown Boathouse have been running free kayaking since May. On a day like today, dozens of people were out on the river:
The kayaking is running from 9am –6pm weekends (weather permitting) until the end of August, then 9am-5pm from September to mid-October. It’s also on weekday afternoons 5pm-7pm until the end of August.
