Do not panic: Bar Nine reopens tomorrow
An update on the Bar Nine renovations saga, looks like they’ll be reopening tomorrow after some of the quickest renovations ever.
The refreshed interior:
Should be a big night tomorrow night.
Life in and around Hell’s Kitchen, NYC
After a short week of renovations, Mercury Bar announced their reopening celebrations for tonight. They originally planned to reopen on Thursday (the 7th), but had to put that off till today.
Now you don’t have to go to Times Square to find a bar anymore.
Yum Yum Too has reopened from their two-week renovations. Not too much has changed, it seems, but at least the Yum Yum trilogy is whole once again.
While many people were out roaming in costume on Halloween, Ñaño Bar & Restaurant held their grand opening night, which looks to have been a big success. The Ecuadorian spot is now open for business across the road from Hell’s Kitchen Park.
Here’s some photos from the opening, from their Facebook page:
They worked quickly over the month since we first checked in with the constructions, and the end result looks good. Head over to their site to check out the menu.
The long-awaited Manhattan outpost of Brooklyn Fare opened last week on W 37th St, and it’s already looking like it’s going to do well. The supermarket within it is stocked full of everything you can imagine, from made-in-store tortellini to flavored olive oils. We’ve had our eye on the not-quite-restaurant-not-quite-supermarket for a while now, but now it’s finally a reality.
The place is somewhat split into two parts, and the supermarket portion of the place is fully up and running. The other half – a 45-seat restaurant, with the notorious $225 multi-course dinner – is scheduled to open at the end of the month, so you’d better start saving.
Catching up on more of the latest changes around the place, the long-awaited Alquimia bistro/bar has opened on 9th Ave between 38th & 39th:
Despite the small street-frontage, it’s actually a pretty big space inside. Of course you’ve got your full bar:
Then there’s even a dining room in the back, and a VIP lounge.
Can’t find a website, so here they are on Yelp. Happy “hour” is from 4-8pm, so stop on by to try out the new place. The menu looks pretty reasonably priced, so it should do quite well.
Another “trendy” rooftop restaurant and bar has opened up along 11th Ave. Z Bar, the latest addition, opened tonight at it’s home above Stage48 just down W 48th St. As you’d expect, it’s got some pretty nice views, looking right out towards Midtown:
You might think that with the temperature plummeting, a rooftop bar wouldn’t be too inviting, but they’ve got plenty of food options to keep you warm, plus a full cocktail menu to help you forget the weather. Gothamist has more about what’s on offer, or you can have a look at the menu and cocktail list.
The new place is just across the road from Press Lounge, another rooftop bar/restaurant, at Ink48, so this is another next step towards bringing some life to 11th Ave.
This appeared out of nowhere. Convo Bar has opened up in the former space of Zigolini’s, taking over in what must be a record time of a week or two. Good news, they’re still very much a pizzeria, with much more of a focus on the “bar” side of things than Zigolini’s, it seems.
Gotta love the “quirky” neons:
We noticed the big peace sign on the inside of the store over the past week and they’ve been open for business for at least a few days now, but the storefront signage hadn’t gone up yet, so it’s been a mystery…until now.
We’re reaching out for a bit more info about the place, but if you can brave the cold you can head on in and check it out for yourselves!
Green Rancho is now open, bringing an end to the Lime Jungle to Green Rancho saga. They’re current open with a “limited menu” while they get settled, but they’re already starting to get busy.
To recap, the place was previously Lime Jungle (sister store of the popular Limón Jungle a few streets north), but closed down for “renovations” several months ago. The plan was to reopen as Lime Jungle, but over the course of the months they eventually changed into the Green Rancho we have today.
Coincidentally, nearby 7 Brothers Deli also opened this week, after a similar extended break for renovations. Must be a trend.
After what seems like an eternity, 7 Brothers Deli on the corner of 49th & 9th has reopened. They closed for the renovations in June, and now, four months later, they’re ready, complete with all the celebratory decorations out for it:
Everything’s straight back to normal:
Just in time for winter.

Not wasting any time, Limón Jungle have completed their expansion into the neighboring store, doubling the size of the restaurant. The new half is mostly a bar, and is already attracting a crowd.
A quick update on the progress of the incoming Pie Face to 8th Ave (previously). Workers were in the store today, setting up the drywall:
The new store is coming along quickly:
It doesn’t look like they’re wasting any time on the new fitout. Won’t be long now before we get another try at the prize wheel!
We’ve really dropped the ball on this one! We mentioned the new bike store on 10th Ave earlier this week, then followed up with the name of the store. Now, turns out this is actually the bike store on 9th Ave’s new location!
The building is the fairly unique yellow one on the corner of 47th & 9th, which has had the faded bike paintings along the wall forever, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens to them.
Yesterday we noticed the incoming bike store on 10th Ave, but weren’t sure of the name. Turns out they’ve put it on the door:
Danny’s Cycles have a couple of stores throughout NY state, including two in the city, and this outpost marks their expansion into the west side of Manhattan.
