     A bit outside our normal area of coverage, but the Famous Oyster Bar at 54^th & 7^th is being pushed out by – what else – high rents.

   • 7 line extension opening to be delayed a few months (Second Ave Sagas)

     Hope you weren’t getting too excited about the 7 line extension opening in June. Now it’s looking like mid– to late-​2014. Classic MTA.

   • Resume-​Toting Thief Caught on Video Stealing Coffee Shop Tip Jar (DNAinfo)

     People are terrible. Kahve got hit by a pair of thieves, who made off with the tip jar. In full view of the security camera.

   • Hudson Yards is Also Getting a High-​End Food Court (Eater)

     Because it wasn’t already easy to confuse all the megaprojects. Now they’re getting even more similar.

   • Hell’s Kitchen School Raises 10,000 Fish in Basement (DNAinfo)

     That’s a lot of fish. It’s all happening at the Food & Finance High School. Even more impressive: they pull in around $120,000 from selling the fish every year.

   • Sigh, Another Gene Kaufman Hotel Is Coming to Midtown (Curbed)

     Yep, another one. To top it off, the site – on W 38^th, between 8^th & 9^th – is apparently contaminated?

   • New Renderings: 605 West 42^nd Street (Curbed)

     New renderings of the second of the “Atelier” towers, on the corner of 42^nd & 9^th, which will be “one of the largest apartment buildings in NYC” once finished. Daunting.

   • Huge Affordable Housing Development Proposed for Hell’s Kitchen (DNAinfo)

     Catching up a bit, there’s plans for a 210-​unit affordable housing development on W 52^nd between 10^th & 11^th, just around the corner from DeWitt Clinton Park It would be an interesting contrast to the luxury Mercedes House directly across the road, even though the design mimics its future neighbor’s “stepped” appearance.

   • Block-​Long Development Site For Sale Beside Hudson Yards (Curbed)

     A development list wouldn’t be complete without some mention of Hudson Yards. Since the development, various buildings and vacant lots have been scooped up, some for crazy numbers. Now the latest: a block along 10^th Ave between 34^th & 35^th is up for grabs. Start placing bets on the final sale price.

     A crowdsourced fundraising campaign has been organized for the widower of the man who died during the fire at the Strand last weekend.

     Somewhat of a “puff piece” about the area, but basically the area is being developed more and more, and it should only get worse continue this year. We’re shocked.

     Are you into clothing? There’s a “big sale” happening this weekend for a few brands. Here’s the address.

   • $55 Million Murray Hill Development Site; Pet Amenities (Curbed)

     A “dog amenity and well facility” is coming to W 42^nd St, with “underwater treadmills, physical therapy and veterinary care”, and “in-​home services for cat owners”. Sign of the times.

   • New York City Mayor-​elect Bill de Blasio vows to ban horse-​drawn carriages (Washington Times)

     Expect to hear a lot more about this in the coming days/​weeks, but if you missed it the days are numbered for horse-​drawn carriages in the city. Some conspiracy theorists are pinning the decision on a desire to buy and develop the stables on W 52^nd St past 11^th Ave. Time will tell.

   • This Gray, 187-​Apartment Box Is Coming To West 35^th Street (Curbed)

     More development being brought on by Hudson Yards. This one’s got an exciting, outrageous design: gray and black.

   • Eating With Ziggy – Literally! All About the Hell’s Kitchen Food Walk (Eating With Ziggy)

     Ziggy from Eating With Ziggy is offering free “food oriented walks” in the neighborhood. Have someone who knows what they’re talking about show you what’s good, and just pay for what you eat.

   • Sam Chang buys $26.5M garage site for hotel (The Real Deal)

     Another hotel going up between 8^th & 9^th Aves, on W 40^th St this time. The developers even bought out the remainder of the 17 years left on the current tenant’s lease, so they’re committed.

     That’s one expensive fungi. The soon-​to-​be mayor donated it to the Food & Finance High School on W 50^th St.

   • Kiehl’s New Hell’s Kitchen Store Will Have a Barbershop (Racked)

     The imminent Kiehl’s store on 9^th Ave is shaping up to be a big deal. Now it’s going to have a barbershop within it.
